What is CNG?
CNG stands for Compressed Natural Gas-the green fuel that is ecofriendly, safe and economical. Technically CNG is a mixture of hydrocarbons consisting of approximately 80-90% of methane in gaseous form. Natural gas is colourless, odourless and non-toxic.
How do I switch to CNG?
All you need to do is get a CNG conversion kit installed in your vehicle. The conversion can either be Dual Diesel Fuel (DDF) or Bi-fuel depending on your vehicle.
What is the difference between DDF and Bi-Fuel?
DDF conversion is the process of converting vehicles driven on diesel. Bi-fuel conversion on the other hand is the process of converting vehicles driven on petrol.
Where can I get CNG?
CNG is available in Jurong Island. Alternatively, you can drive to Johor where CNG price is 70% less as compared to Singapore!! Infrastructure facilities are being developed rapidly and more stations are coming up. Singapore's first-ever publicly-accessible refuelling station for compressed natural gas (CNG) is expected to start running by January 2008.
What is the CNG Dual Fuel Conversion System?
Under the CNG Dual Fuel Conversion System, a Compressed natural Gas Conversion kit is added to a vehicle with a major modifications to the vehicle's system. In fact the capability of the vehicle is enhanced to include operating on alternative fuel.
What are the benefits of using CNG?
The Safety track record of Natural Gas Vehicles all over the world is much better than that of liquid fuels. Natural Gas is an ideal fuel source for many reasons, including safety. Natural Gas is lighter than air. This means that it will not puddle (like gasoline) or sink to the ground like propane, which is heavier than air. Instead, Natural Gas will rise and dissipate in the atmosphere.
Natural gas also has a higher ignition temperature. This means that it is much harder to ignite. Also the storage systems used for compressed natural gas are infinitely stronger that the gasoline tanks found on cars and trucks today. The ignition temperature of CNG is higher than that of petrol making it more difficult to ignite. It is non-toxic, non-corrosive and non- carcinogenic.
CNG is one of the cleanest burning alternative fuels available. The use of CNG as fuel reduces vehicular exhaust emissions significantly. Carbon Monoxide emissions are reduced by 70 to 90 % and hydrocarbon emissions by 40 to 60% as compared to vehicles that use the conventional fuel. Carbon dioxide emissions, a cause for global warming, are also reduced significantly by 10%.
After Conversion, can the vehicle drive on diesel/petrol?
Yes. The CNG kit is just an attachment. For bi-fuel converted vehicle, the vehicle can be driven on both petrol as well as CNG. For DDF converted vehicle, the vehicle can be driven on both diesel and petrol or diesel alone. But the converted DDF vehicle cannot be driven on CNG alone due to the different ignition mechanism of petrol engine and diesel engine.
